35th Greater Wellsville Annual Trout Derby
General Information
The 35th Greater Wellsville Annual Trout Derby concluded at 3pm on Sunday, April 27th. This year, 1293 fishermen and women registered to participate in the event. In spite of somewhat adverse weather conditions, they managed to catch 97 of the 450 tagged fish that had been released. $4,900.00 worth of prizes were awarded for the tagged fish that were caught. The highest paying tagged fish was caught by Jeffrey Grist of Cameron Mills, NY. That fish, sponsored by Bob Pfuntner of radio station WQRW, was worth $500.00 to the lucky fisherman.
The Community Fish, with tag #1, was not caught. However, as always, the raffle was still held to select the lucky ticket holder who would be awarded half of the amount that the fish was worth. Laura Stafford, of Angelica NY, was the winner of the raffle and presented with a check for $3,152.00!
The Trout Derby Gun Raffle winners were: 1st Prize – Robert White, 2nd Prize – Nathan Ruffle, and 3rd Prize – JoAnn Gant.
The Wellsville Lions Club is looking forward to hosting this event again in April 2026. As soon as the dates are finalized, we will have them posted here. So, check back here to keep informed. Thanks to all those who attended this popular event. We hope to see you again next year!
